Smoke Management and Air Quality for Land Managers is meant for those who are looking for a tutorial on smoke management and air quality. The refresher is comprised of four lessons, each of which can be completed in about half an hour; however, links and interactions allow further investigation of several topics. Each of the blue topic headings is linked to a lesson.
Lesson 2:
Air Quality Regulations
Lesson Two describes the major federal regulations that affect wildland fire operations and management. This module also provides a brief background on the formation of these regulations. This lesson describes the Clean Air Act, National Ambient Air Quality Standards, the Regional Haze Rule, and the Exceptional Events Rule.
Lesson 3:
Smoke Management Techniques
Lesson Three lists and describes several options for managing smoke on the ground. Techniques for reducing and redistributing emissions are discussed. Following the explanation of these techniques, meteorological phenomena that can affect these techniques are defined.
